So, just What is such a shame?

It is truly a shame that so many people totally miss out on what God has clearly promised them. This is most obvious when we are talking about promises of eternal salvation by grace through faith alone. It is also true of born-again believers, who neglect to understand or to live according to what God has already clearly promised. That is why this section is devoted to a couple of illustrious examples of people who had treasures.

The first case is Harold Roper. He had a treasure of immense value, but did nothing with it. It just sat for months collecting dust. The second case is James Howell, who knew he had a treasure, but couldn’t find it. They illustrate from different angles what a shame it is to not be aware of God’s promises or be able to find them.
