1978 Revenge!

Revenge!

As told by Daniel

This story is more of an anecdote and not such a heavy experience as the last one.

Several of us singles were having a nice, friendly water fight on a hot summer day in the Tennessee house in Lawrence, Kansas. This must have been in the summer of 1978. One of the single brothers, Stan, had doused Marianne quite thoroughly. At that point, Marianne grabbed a big bucket, came into the kitchen where I was, and started filling it, intending to pay Stan back big time!

As I saw what was unfolding, I thought of and quoted Romans 12:19 to her:

“Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.” Romans 12:19

After being admonished by such a clear verse (and an unconditional promise at that!), I was surprised to see her not even slow down. She finished filling the bucket, and head out the back door, in pursuit of Stan. But, as she reached the end of the porch, she stopped, and as she poured out the water on the ground, she yelled at Stan: “God’s gonna get you, Stan!”

In the end Marianne did heed the clear instruction, and left Stan to be dealt with by God directly.
